Willingness To Particpate- Open Board Positions / Join a Committee
Posted 5 months ago by Susan Snyder
Dear INSPAN Member,
We want YOU to represent your Indiana state component. Being an officer is a rewarding way to advance your career, enhance your leadership skills, and network with nurses across the state and the country. As an officer, your voice will be heard. As president and vice president you will be able to attend the ASPAN National Conference and represent Indiana at the Representative Assembly. You will get to vote in the officer elections at the national level and have a voice in making changes that directly affect your clinical practice. All board members could have the opportunity to attend the Professional Development Institute to develop their leadership skills.
Choosing to participate on the board of directors will increase your knowledge of perianesthesia nursing, enhance your leadership skills, and give you the opportunity to be the agent of change for your nursing practice. You will make new friends and be given the opportunity to make a difference in your nursing practice. It may seem overwhelming to read the job descriptions. Each position comes with a mentor and a team of board members who are willing to teach and help you along your journey.
There are many ways you can participate. You may join a committee or become a member of the board of directors. The time requirement is approximately 1 hour per month. The board of directors meets four times a year. We have met once in person and virtually for the other two meetings this year.
In 2022 the INSPAN component was on the verge of dissolving. Because of our volunteer members stepping up and taking positions on the board, our component is now thriving. Some of our accomplishments include filling all board of director positions for 2024. Our first newsletter since 2018 was published and sent out to all members in April. Committees are beginning to re-organize. A fall education seminar is currently being planned for October 26, 2024. All of these accomplishments are the result of a team of great nurses working hard for their Indiana perianesthesia nurses!
The following board positions are open: Vice President-President Elect, Secretary and two Members at Large.
*Vice President-President Elect will acquaint himself/herself with the duties and responsibilities of the office of president, so that he/she may serve efficiently when succeeding to the office. In absence of the president or in effect of the president’s inability to serve, the vice president-president elect shall perform the duties of the president. This officer will serve as chairperson of the state Fall Education Committee. This officer will serve as an Assembly Representative at the National Conference. Term: 3 years
*Secretary will keep the corporate books, other than financial records. The secretary shall be responsible for keeping the minutes of all Board of Directors meetings and general membership meetings. The secretary is responsible for posting the meeting minutes on the website for the membership to view. Term: 2 years
*Members at Large for the INSPAN Board of Directors will act as a representative of the general membership of the component. The member at large will attend four board meetings and serve on at least one committee during their term of office. There is a need for two members at large. Term: 2 years
